The InterContinental Prague has, by far, one of the best locations in town, right in the center of the Jewish neighborhood, close to the magical area of the Old Town (Staré Mesto).
With over 40 years of experience in the art of welcoming, this hotel, of the acclaimed InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), transformed our stay in Prague into a luxurious, comforting and memorable moment.
First Impression
Similarly to other hotels of the group where we already had the pleasure to stay, the Lobby of the hotel is imposing, elegant and agitated, very agitated! Being a hotel with a great capacity, and a privileged location, it is expected to be very requested and looked for by many, namely Asians and Americans, arriving by the hundreds in their usual (huge) tours!
Besides, the hotels of the InterContinental group are also, by excellence, Business Hotels (moreover, the best in this category) so in the moment of our arrival the lobby was flooded with people!
However, that does not invalidate, at all, a warm reception with some readiness, which happened with us.
While I observed the space around me, I was able to delight myself with the space on my left, more or less contiguous to the reception, that seemed to be a bar, quite charming and interesting, with a peculiar atmosphere, keeping a discrete and cozy identity, despite its location in the middle of the action. A few hours later I found out it was Duke´s Bar & Café, one of the gastronomic spaces of the hotel.
Bedrooms
The InterContinental Prague, as I said, is quite big, having 372 bedrooms (32 of which are suites), that were renewed between 2001 and 2002, while the hotel was also being renovated, as well as the Club InterContinental, the second floor, allowing to increase the total number of bedrooms (previously they were 364) and the creation of an exterior garden.
Therefore, our bedroom had a decoration that provided us comfort and well-being, a contemporary style combined with more classical details that matched, perfectly, a coziest environment with luxury and sophistication.
I just missed a little welcoming gesture, either a fruit, a sweet, a drink, something that would make our reception even warmer, however, similar to other hotels (and to my pleasure), we had tea, coffee and hot chocolate mix.
Restaurants
The hotel has three excellent gastronomical options, the elegant Duke´s Bar & Café, with its refined selection of pastry, teas and coffees, or its lighter meals like salads and sandwiches, or even, its tasty cocktails.
Besides this more practical option, the hotel has also two restaurants, the Primátor and the Zlatá Praha, the first one, located in the reception floor, is the space where breakfast is served, with varied and excellent options for all tastes, from the typical continental breakfast to more Asian flavors (or wouldn’t this be the nationality of the majority of the guests!) and where lunches and dinners are organized during conferences/congresses or other events.
The second one, Zlatá Praha, located on the last floor, has one of the most beautiful and magical views anyone can ask for, the top of the several historical buildings of the Old Town, filling our deepest imaginary with princes and princesses stories. But, not wanting to lose myself in the beautiful visiting card that is the city of Prague, this restaurant, with a wonderful summer terrace, is leaded by the renowned Chef Miroslav Kubec, and offers an excellent cuisine of Czech roots, with international influence, and it’s also quite known for its remarkable wine list, with over 100 options from different countries.
Services
The InterContinental Prague is by excellence, a Business Hotel, reason why it has a capacity of 14 rooms functional for every type of event, including an elegant and huge ball room with a terrace ideal for garden parties.
For the most active, the Health Club presents everything for all tastes, and honestly it was the biggest hotel gym I ever saw, I must say even bigger than many street gyms I know! As to the Spa area, besides the treatment and massage rooms, this complex also presents a sauna, Turkish bath, warm interior pool with natural light and a Jacuzzi (very warm!) that made my delights!
The hotel also offers all the usual commodities of a five star hotel to its guests, like the concierge service, 24h room service, Wi-Fi, limousine service and also the possibility of shopping through some stores inside the hotel, located in the Lobby’s floor.
For the frequent clients of the group, the InterContinental Prague presents the Club InterContinental, on the eight floor, where luxury meets privilege and there’s a celebration of the customization service, the access to this service allows the guests private and faster check-ins and check-outs, library, internet access, international newspapers, printer, fresh drinks during the day, breakfast and a selection of alcoholic beverages and tapas in the evening (all this for $200 a year, also including an upgrade in the bedroom’s typology in any stay in any of the group’s hotels).
Service
While we stayed at the hotel there were a series of events happening with a huge amount of people and lots of agitation, and obviously the hotel seemed to lose a bit its identity, however all efforts were made to compensate and the staff had strategies for being able to accompany a full house! The service was welcoming, polite and quite efficient. Nothing the IGH group hasn’t accustomed us to!
Whether for pleasure or business, InterContinental Prague is a right bet for those that like us visit the city to enjoy everything, having one of the best locations in town, in the emblematic Pařížská Street, where luxury stores occupy their space in the path to the most emblematic square in the city, an excellent service, and, in the upper floors, an excellent view over the Old Town and the castle. Always with the warranty seal of one of the best hotel groups in the world.
